New Strong Woman Shrines.....

I used to love building furniture for my dolls out of cardboard & masking tape when I was a kid. Building these shrines brought back fond memories of that, and of building things in the basement with my brother who was a cabinetmaker.

Each of these Strong Woman Shrines are hand built from foam core board & a great glue.  When dry they were coated with gesso & then dried again.  Finally painted with fun colors, embellishments & glitz!  Cick on the pictures for a larger view.

They are now for sale at the greatest little shop in town where you can find gifts for any occasion, and all kinds of people are on display from floor to ceiling. It is truly a shop for those with an artist's eye and apprecaiation for the unique.  Worth a visit -- and then a repeat visit, and another one!

The Gun Tote'n Chic......4X6"

Frida -- 7 X 9"  - At least!  She is awesome.

I'll also make up blank ones if you like - to use for photo frames for family & friends.  These are tons of fun.
Most of them also have either pearls or wooden beads for feet to raise them up.  I photographed these before they were applied.

Appliqued Cupcake with lots of Fluff & Glitz!

This was so much fun to make!
It was originally intended to be a gift for my pastry chef/baker daughter.  I ended up making a second one because this one was crooked.
I finally mounted it on a 1.5 inch deep, 10x10 inch wood frame that I built, and then just kept embellishing it over a few days.                                 Now it hangs in my place.
I love it!

I joined a Travelling Journal Group.....

No...we don't travel together...just the journals do.  Darn.

The artists are from SE Wisconsin & New York.   These are  my first journal pages.   It's already been sent to the next artist, and I've received number 2.  For 12 consecutive months each member will receive a journal to contribute to,  with the last journal we receive as  ours to finish and keep.  However, they will be in a few travelling exhibits after that.
I'll keep posting mine as I get them done.
These pages were  done with layers of treasure papers (these are paper towels and other papers that I use to blot up excess paint left behind on the art table! ) The are awesome things to collect.  The 'blobs' of red in the first layer/background are on industrial white paper towels.  There are also photocopied images of old glasses & words glued on that first layer, as are the red squares on the outside borders are torn from papers that I collected at an Asian market. The large gold rectangle on the left page is also part of those papers.
Then...a few layers of white tissue paper that I stamped quotes and images on, and then adhered to the collage.
A few days later, I embellished the collage with deep pink watercolor, and fringy yarn.
Once it was completely dried, I pressed the book  with lots of weight to flatten the pages.  This journal is on heavy watercolor paper...and it really curled!   It left home nice and flat though.
That's it for now!

Here's something new!  I made these pins from 'canvas scraps' -   The average size - 2x3 inches.  Click on any picture in the blog for a bigger, better view!

For some reason I am in this 'glitzy mode' and have been putting sparkly stuff on the items that I make.  Wait until you see my kitchen clock!  That's next.

The pins are going to be at SAMARA Garden & Home @ 5211 West North Avenue.

They have a big party/art & garden opening coming up - try to get there!  You'll find amazing things....and very interesting guests too!
